FAQ

How many home types are in Lagos Life?
The official app listing says five, but community documentation now counts eight rungs on the live ladder — from a shared room in Mushin to a Banana Island mansion. The landing page's live counter shows roughly 400 homes across the city.
When is rent due?
Rent is charged weekly, and community reports point to Saturday as rent day. Keep at least one week of rent plus commute money in your balance at all times.
Which starter home is best?
For a loan start (LAPO), the cheapest weekly rent — usually the UNILAG student room at ₦1,200 — is safest while you repay. For a Nepo start, your furnished Lekki apartment is already the top of the ladder; stay put.

Rent is the fixed cost that shapes every week in Lagos Life: it comes out weekly whether you worked or not, and the ladder from Mushin to Lekki changes both your budget and your commute. Numbers below are tied to dated sources; your own offers may differ by account.

How does housing work?

You choose housing at character creation from the options your account is offered, pay weekly rent on rent day, and can move as your income grows. The official structure is a five-type ladder — from a shared room in Mushin (mainland, cheapest) up to a furnished apartment in Lekki Phase 1 (island, premium). The city’s landing page shows a live counter of about 400 homes, so supply is a real layer the game tracks. Moving between cities (Abuja, Port Harcourt) re-opens the housing choice there — see transport for the trip itself.

What starter housing can a new character choose?

The three options offered to a documented LAPO account:

Option Starting cash Weekly rent District
UNILAG Student room ₦14,000 ₦1,200 Yaba (mainland)
Mushin room ₦76,000 ₦2,400 Mushin (mainland)
Yaba self-contain ₦96,000 ₦6,000 Yaba (mainland)

The trade is staring-cash-now vs rent-forever: ₦96,000 buys breathing room in week one, but ₦6,000 weekly is five times the student room’s rent. For a loan start repaying ₦12,000 a week (see the money guide), the student room is the clear pick — the campus is walkable to CcHub, which pairs with the first-week job loop.

Offers vary by account: a Nepo Baby bypasses this screen entirely with a furnished Lekki apartment already assigned.

What does the full housing ladder look like?

The full ladder as documented by community testers (cross-checked 2026-10-10) — eight rungs from a Mushin shared room to a Banana Island mansion. Weekly rent, the real cost of moving in (two weeks’ deposit plus agency and agreement fees), and the outright buy-out price:

Home · District Size Weekly rent Move-in total Buy outright
Face-me-I-face-you · Mushin 6×6 ₦2,400 ₦7,200 ₦113,000
UNILAG Hall of Residence (students) — ₦1,200 ₦3,600 not for sale
Self-contain · Yaba 7×7 ₦6,000 ₦18,000 ₦312,000
Mini-flat · Lekki Phase 1 10×10 ₦17,000 ₦51,000 ₦910,000
Terrace duplex · Ikate, Lekki 11×11 ₦45,000 ₦135,000 ₦2,470,000
Family duplex · Magodo GRA 13×13 ₦110,000 ₦330,000 ₦6,067,000
Duplex · Ikoyi 12×12 ₦250,000 ₦750,000 ₦14,733,000
Mansion · Banana Island 14×14 ₦1,500,000 ₦4,500,000 ₦91,000,000

Reading the ladder: a Lekki mini-flat’s buy-out (₦910,000) equals about 54 weeks of its own rent — buy when you plan to stay, rent when you might move. Buying is reached through Phone → Houses → Homes; a “Buy it, no more rent” button purchases your current rental with no confirmation step, so read before you tap.

How rent and moving actually work

  • Rent day is Saturday, charged weekly; new tenancies get a 14-day prepaid grace after the deposit.
  • Move-in cost = two weeks’ rent up front plus agency and agreement fees (that is why totals are 3× the weekly rent).
  • Buy-outs resell at 80% — the game buys a home back at four-fifths of the price you paid.
  • Own up to 20 homes (including builds in progress); renting your portfolio out is marked “Opening soon”.
  • Same-city moves carry your furniture — anything that does not fit goes to free storage (Buy → Storage). Cross-city homes use separate slots and do not touch your Lagos furniture.
  • Blocked from moving? Usual causes: insufficient balance, an unfinished shift or trip, unpaid rent arrears, or the UNILAG hall requiring current student registration.

When more tiers get verified in-game, this table updates — the update tracker logs new housing features as the developer ships them (Sea Plots, a water-side land layer, is already teased on the official map).

Should I upgrade or stay cheap?

Upgrade when the rent is under a third of a typical week’s earnings and the new home cuts real commute time:

  • Move for your job. A home near your venue saves game minutes every single shift — check the locations guide for where your career is actually based.
  • Don’t rent for status. The expensive island addresses are closest to Banking, DJ and Real Estate venues; if you work in Surulere, paying island rent buys you a longer commute.
  • Keep one week buffered. Whatever you rent, hold a spare week of rent at all times — rent day does not negotiate.
